Moving inland, you will eventually reach the foothills of Dartmoor and this national park really does dominate the interior of this large county. Dartmoor is steeped in history and legend and one of these includes the myth of the ‘Hairy Hand of Two Bridges’. Ridiculous, obviously, but just one of the ghostly and eerie tales that have long been associated with these misty moors.

Tavistock, Okehampton and Moretonhampstead are three examples of the quintessentially Devonian market towns that should appear on any travel itinerary and are also where you are bound to find Devon cottages in and around.

Moving up to the north coast of Devon you will encounter yet more idyllic and charming towns and the availability of Devon cottages certainly doesn’t slacken off in this part of the county. Popular favourites here include Barnstaple, Bideford and Ilfracome and you may even be able to arrange a visit to the island of Lundy, which belongs to Devon, but is situated right in the middle of the Bristol Channel.
