Suffolk is an ideal get away for those that enjoy the tranquillity of the traditional English countryside. It has wide expanses of countryside, broad wildlife-rich wetlands on the coast, and a seemingly limitless sky. And a whole range of  Suffolk holiday cottages can offer their guests a restful escape, from the stress and strain of urban Britain.

Seated beside its beautiful beaches and cliffs is a thriving community of coastal towns and villages. Furthest north on the coast is Lowestoft, a thriving tourist resort, with great entertainment facilities. Just south lie the unspoilt beaches of the coastal town of Kessingland, pulling fresh sea air from the clear North Sea. But rather than putting up with a resort chalet there, you could ensconce yourself in one of the beautiful nearby holiday cottages Suffolk, and drive in to sample the town’s delightful beaches.

To the south, the coast has crisp shingle beaches, that are often hidden by soft sandy cliffs and dunes, which are more than satisfying to those that enjoy a quiet walk. One prized, secretive gem on the Suffolk coast here is Southwold. It is more of a community, that has long been associated with artistic retreats, and it still has a thriving community of artists. Here the town’s holiday cottages have a grand, yet bohemian air that makes them superb holiday homes, for those with the means. But just inland you will find simpler holiday cottages Suffolk, less expensive, but just as endearing.

Further inland, Suffolk can boast charming, rustic holiday cottages Suffolk all over its restful landscape – nestled in the rolling hills, or sited alongside the many waterways. The cathedral town of Bury St Edmund’s has much to intrigue the visitor who has been drawn inland. Its outstanding cathedral is a central place of prayer and contemplation, as well as pilgrimage, down the centuries. Here you will also find Edmunds Art Gallery, a reputed centre of artistic endeavour.

Ipswich, the principal county town (although still not a city), is completely fascinating in itself. There you will find the Tolly Cobold brewery, one of the finest Victorian Breweries still in working order, and still producing great beer. It is also home to many artistic and dramatic festivals throughout the year. If you were to base your Suffolk holiday cottages in the local villages around this town, or even take up a smart residence in the old town, you would find yourself ideally placed to explore all that Suffolk has to offer.
